One-Day Program
The NeurExpand Brain Center offers the first and only comprehensive, multidisciplinary clinical program to effectively treat memory loss and other cognitive impairments. Our one-day Brain Health Consultation captures the key aspects of NeurExpand’s standard twelve-week program, and compresses it into one day to provide benefits for those with a demanding schedule.
The program, developed by renowned Harvard and Johns Hopkins-trained neurologist Dr. Majid Fotuhi, is based on extensive scientific research into medical conditions that are deleterious to memory.
The one-day program includes:
Morning
- Neurologist Consult- The day begins with a meeting with the neurologist to review the client’s medical background and discuss their brain health concerns. The neurologist will also review the program and address any questions.
- Q-EEG (Brain Mapping)- Quantitative Electroencephalography (Q-EEG) is a test that measures normal electrical activity in the brain. This painless, non-invasive test is done by simply placing small sensors on the scalp and measuring brain waves via EEG equipment. This diagnostic tool provides a “brain map” of the client’s brain wave patterns which is compared to a normative database to help determine level of brain function.
- Cognitive Evaluation- It is critical to determine the cognitive status and memory function of our client to guide development of their treatment plan. To do this, the client will complete an extensive battery of computer and pencil / paper based tests looking at factors such as visual memory, verbal memory, language, executive function, and attention.
- CPET- As with general health, physical fitness is a key component of brain health. CPET testing, administered by an exercise physiologist, is a procedure to establish a client’s level of fitness. The evaluation is done by measuring client’s VO2 max during aerobic exercise on a specialized stationary exercise bike. CPET results help establish fitness targets and recommendations for the follow-up treatment plan.
Afternoon
- Brain Coaching- There are things we can do every day to help mitigate factors in life that have negative effects on our brain health. The client meets with a clinician to learn life routines, brain health skills, and memory techniques that improve and preserve memory and cognitive health. These skills include memory and attention exercises to work out the brain; meditation and anxiety reduction techniques to counter the harmful effects of stress; and guidance on lifestyle choices on diet and exercise that are optimal for healthy brain function.
- Neurologist Closing Meeting- At the close of the day, the client will meet with the neurologist to review the results of the brain health diagnostics, address any questions, and discuss the client’s next steps for his / her personalized brain health plan.
