In this study, we are planning to evaluate the effects of two natural supplements on cognitive function and blood flow to the brain in persons with memory complaints. Fruitflow is a tomato extract component which has been shown to modify platelet activity in the vascular system and may have beneficial effects on systemic blood flow. This effect of Fruitflow is similar to aspirin which has antiplatelet activity and is used for a long time for secondary prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events in patients. In this study, our goal is to find out whether fruitflow has any beneficial effects on blood flow to the brain and thereby improving memory problems. We also evaluate effects of another natural supplement, Resveratrol, on cognitive functions, blood flow to the brain and fitness alone or in combination with Fruitflow. Resveratrol is a natural compound found in the skin of red grapes and also in wine.
The general inclusion criteria for this trial include:
- Age between 50-80
- Subjective complaint of some degree of decline in memory
- Being in stable overall health
Study Procedures:
- Initial Screening and Blood Test
- Assessment of Memory and Cognition with Several Psychological Tests
- Brain Blood Flow Measurement with Ultrasound
- Fitness Testing with a Stationary-bike
Duration:
- Three Months (90 Days)
The results of the study will potentially provide a new insight that Fruitflow and Resveratrol can be beneficial for improvement of brain blood flow, cardiovascular function, and memory in middle-aged and elderly individuals with memory problems.
